BIPOLAR AND TALK THERAPY (519 hits)

Living with a brain disorder is challenging and when we do not accept that we have a brain disorder such as Bipolar, we rob ourselves of the opportunity to achieve mental wellness. Without mental wellness, we cannot achieve spiritual wellness.

One of the main reasons I became afflicted with this brain disorder is because I kept a lot of painful experiences and anger penned up inside of me. The mind is only capable of holding so much and when we are angry, our brain emits too much Norepinephrine and Serotonin. These chemicals are believed to be responsible for Depression. It is my belief that depression is anger turned inwards and that drives the chemicals to go out of whack!

When we cannot trust anyone to talk about the pains that have hurt us emotionally, we walk around with this chemical oozing out of control. Thus, we need to have somebody that we trust 100 percent to share even our deepest and darkest secrets.

A therapist is someone who is not connected to your family and friend base. He or she is a professional trained to help you navigate out of that blackness emotionally. That leads to emotional wellness over time.

With the added medications to regulate the brain disorder, you or your loved one can begin to live your life with purpose, peace, and happiness. In my book, "Cooling Well Water: A Collection of Work By An African-American Bipolar Woman" (ISBN 13 978-0-9754612-0-4 - Release on March 17, 2009), I share with you my discovery of pains buried so deep that even I was fooled that I had healed.

It is imperative for us to begin the process of talk therapy and you can do so as discretely as possible with professional therapy. The American Association of Pastoral Counselors is a good place to start your journey to wellness.

It is my hope that my book inspires many dialogues about emotional wellness, spiritual wellness, peace, and happiness. When we accomplish this, we can free our hearts to love more of ourselves and find our true purpose in life. We can defeat that generational barrier to wellness, too, because our children mimic our behaviors. Let's show them newer and healthier behaviors.
